School Uniform

School's View on School Uniform

The Head Teacher wrote the following to parents in June 2022 and reiterated this in September 2022.

'As you will have probably seen in the news that the government have made an announcement on school uniform in recent months;

‘School uniforms are helpful in fostering a good learning environment and can promote the ethos of a school. To make sure school uniforms are affordable for all families, our guidance sets out how you should keep the costs of their uniforms down. Schools are required to take steps to do this before September 2022, taking actions including removing unnecessary branded items and allowing more high-street options, like supermarket own-label uniforms.’

As a school we are conscious that we don’t want to increase costs any more than are needed and we would fully support the above statement. We are bringing in the new school logo, but we do not expect that parents go out and buy new school uniform when they have perfectly good uniform with the old logo on it.

From September children in KS2 will no longer be required to wear the school tie, which has been worn less so in the pandemic. Therefore, we won’t require children to wear actual shirts and plain white polo shirts will be fine for all age groups. We will not be providing branded logo ’ed polo shirts.

I know that tradition has dictated that children wear a red sweatshirt for PE, which we are happy to continue but again we will not be providing logo-ed versions of this.

We have spoken to our uniform suppliers, Rawcliffes in Dewsbury who will be stocking the new school uniform with immediate effect, so our new parents can buy it. They will be open so that parents can go and buy uniform but also have an online facility as well. Details can be found below'

Additional Information

Year 5 swimming

Children will need a swimming cap and a swimming costume or trunks (trunks must be tight-fitting and not of the Bermuda style shorts) and a towel in a clearly named bag.

If children need to wear goggles for medical reasons then parents/carers are required to obtain a report from a medical professional and to share this with school.

PE – all children

On named PE Days, children should come to school dressed for PE.

For indoor PE, children should wear plain navy or black shorts or joggers, a plain white polo shirt and trainers. Children should not wear black pumps. For outdoor PE during winter months children should wear plain navy blue joggers/leggings.  For religious reasons, children may wear close-fitting navy blue joggers or navy blue leggings for indoor PE.

Children with long hair should tie it back for PE.

Jewellery

Valuables should not be brought to school.

Basic jewellery and watches are the child’s responsibility if he/she chooses to wear them. School is not liable for any lost items of jewellery. Earrings – Children are allowed to wear a small pair of plain, silver or gold studs but these must be taken out for PE due to Health and Safety Regulations. Children must be able to remove earrings themselves as staff are not permitted to do it for them. If children are not able to take their own earrings out then, unfortunately, they will not be able to participate in PE lessons. Earrings cannot be covered with a plaster.

Footwear

Children should wear a pair of plain black school shoes or trainers.

We ask that parents do not buy black trainers with coloured patterns or logos on. Shoes for girls should be flat and high heels should not be worn.

Headscarves and Hairstyles

Headscarves should be plain navy blue, white or grey if worn for religious reasons.

To ensure all children have a neat appearance whilst in school, please avoid extreme hairstyles. (No patterns or lines to be shaved into the hair). Please save these for the summer holidays.
